    Resumo em Inglês:

Abstract: Yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis St. Hill.) is an important woody tree in South America, however the production of quality seedlings is a major problem. Microorganisms that promote plant growth have shown to be efficient biotechnologies in the production of seedlings. The arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), it establishes symbiosis with several plant species and increases the accumulation of biomass and absorption of poorly mobile nutrients such as phosphorus. Here, we test the effects of two AMF species on growth, root architecture, phosphorus accumulation and gas exchange of yerba mate seedlings cultivated under different phosphorus levels. We used seedlings in a non-sterile soil, inoculated with AMFs Rhizophagus clarus SCT720A and Acaulospora colombiana SCT115A, and non-inoculated (control) treatment under five levels of phosphorus (0; 25; 50; 100 and 200% recommendation). After 90 days of AMF inoculation, plant dry biomass, root architecture and mycorrhizal colonization were determined and after 180 days, the same parameters plus photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance and P content were evaluated. AMF inoculation increased shoot and root dry biomass, total root length, root volume. Plants inoculated with AMF showed higher photosynthesis rate. Phosphorus content and mycorrhizal colonization were increased almost three times when inoculated with AMF. Our findings highlight the importance of AMF inoculation for Ilex paraguariensis seedlings production, reducing the time needed in nurseries to enhance tree performance.

The species is currently listed in category EN (endangered). The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of different substrates on the emergence and initial growth of E. pauferrense. The experiment was carried out in a protected environment, belonging to the Plant Ecology Laboratory of the Federal University of Paraíba, Areia-PB, Brazil. The substrates used were: sand; sand + vermiculite in the proportion of 1:1, 3:1 and 1:3; vegetal land; vegetal land + sand in the proportion of 1:1, 3:1 and 1:3; vegetal land + vermiculite in the proportion of 1:1, 3:1 and 1:3; vermiculite; Bioplant®; and Bioplant® + sand in a ratio of 1:1, 3:1 and 1:3. The experimental design was completely randomized, with 16 treatments (substrates) and four replications of 25 seeds. The percentage of emergence, first count, speed index, mean time, mean speed and relative emergency frequency were evaluated. The vermiculite substrate provided the best results for carrying out the emergence and vigor tests of E. pauferrense seedlings, being the most suitable substrate to initial growth seedlings of the species.
  • Growth and Quality of Yerba Mate Seedlings Affected by Fertilizer Doses in South Brazil Article - Agriculture, Agribusiness And Biotechnology

Walter, Letícia Siqueira; Gonçalves, Murilo Faix; Kratz, Dagma; Fragoso, Rosimeri de Oliveira; Stuepp, Carlos André

    Resumo em Inglês:

Abstract: Given the lack of information on the use of controlled-release fertilizers in yerba mate seedlings production, this study aimed to evaluate growth and morphological characteristics of seedlings produced with two controlled-release fertilizers applied at different doses. We used seeds from a clonal seed orchard, which were sown in a commercial substrate based on peat and vermiculite, with Osmocote® MiniPrill 3M (CRF 3M) and Basacote® Plus 9M (CRF 9M) fertilizers, both in doses of 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 kg m-3. Seedling height and stem diameter were measured at 60, 90, 120, and 180 days after sowing and, at 180 days, shoot, root, and total biomass, tube withdrawal ease, and root aggregation. From these data, we calculated Dickson's quality index, technical efficiency, Height/Stem diameter ratio, and maximum technical efficiency dose. We verified values statistically superior to control treatment (0 kg m-3) in all variables in response to controlled-release fertilizer 3M and 9M, demonstrating the viability of yerba mate seedling production using controlled-release fertilizers. This is also evidenced through results obtained for growth in height and stem diameter. Although CRF 3M favored seedling growth, CRF 9M showed similar efficiency. The Osmocote® MiniPrill 3M is more efficient than Basacote® Plus 9M in most of the variables analyzed and has a lower input required to obtain quality seedlings. For these reasons, Osmocote® MiniPrill 3M is indicated to produce yerba mate seedlings in the dose 8.50 kg m-3.

    Resumo em Inglês:

Abstract: Parabens are among the most widely used preservatives in cosmetic formulations. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) and the use of parabens in cosmetics. A systematic review was performed with searches in PubMed, Scopus and Science Direct, in addition to a manual search. Interventional or observational studies that assessed the incidence of ACD in individuals using parabens were included. The quality of the articles was assessed and the data were extracted for a qualitative synthesis and single-arm meta-analysis. Fourteen studies (8 longitudinal, 3 cross-sectional, 1 quasi experimental and 2 case reports) were included in the systematic review and had their data extracted. Twelve studies reported ACD after the use of parabens and were included in the single-arm meta-analysis, resulting in an ACD incidence of 0.9%[95%CI: 0.4-2.0%], thus classified as a rare event. This result was related to already sensitized skin in most cases. In addition, the concentration of parabens in the contact test was above that recommended in cosmetics. The incidence of ACD due to parabens is rare, but further studies with control groups and at the usual concentrations of parabens are needed to better evaluate the results.

This led to the possibility of attempting to forecast coronavirus indicators using the internet data. For this study, Google Trends statistics for 124 selected search terms related to pandemic were used in an attempt to find which keywords had the best Spearman correlations with a lag, as well as a forecasting model. It was found that keywords related to coronavirus testing among some others, such as “I have contracted covid”, had high correlations (≥0.7) with few weeks of lag (≤4 weeks). Besides that, the ARIMAX model using those keywords had promising results in predicting the increase or decrease of epidemiological indicators, although it was not able to predict their exact values. Thus, we found that Google Trends data may be useful for predicting outbreaks of coronavirus a few weeks before they happen, and may be used as an auxiliary tool in monitoring and forecasting the disease in Brazil.

    Grabiele, Mauro; Aguilera, Patricia Mabel

    Resumo em Inglês:

Abstract: Here we report the current gene impact of the Au family of SINEs in tomato. The genome of Solanum lycopersicum ‘Heinz 1706’ SL3.0 -NCBI annotation release 103- was reference searched and the Au profile was characterized in-depth. Tomato genome comprises ca. 670 Au copies, of entire length-18.5%- or truncated, randomly inserted and eroded, forming three well supported (>80%) super clusters which disperse along the 12 chromosomes mirroring the subtelomeric gene distribution bias of the species. In tomato, the Au clade is largely localized at protein coding genes-69.5% introns, 7.8% 3UTRs, 2.1% 5UTRs, 1.2% CDSs- followed by genomic copies-18.3%-, long non coding RNA genes-1.4%- and pseudogenes-0.8%-. The 419 tomato genes harboring intronic Au are diverse, weakly associated considering biological processes and molecular functions, but include important traits such as stress response, hormone response or phenotype plasticity. Au was found to be transcribed inside circular RNAs derived from 12 genic loci. Exonic Au affect the transcriptional and/or translational profiles of 67 tomato genes, including biological/agronomical important ones, contributing to UTR length and composition, UTR transcript variants, CDS boundary definitions, protein domains and variants. We propose that biased survival of Au in tomato genes is an adaptive feature.

Alberti, María Melisa; Mejía, Santiago Jaramillo; Pérez-Chávez, Ana Marión; Lio, Vanesa; Albertó, Edgardo

    Resumo em Inglês:

Abstract: Lentinula edodes is the most consumed mushroom in the world, being cultivated mainly on waste coming from the forest industry. During shiitake cultivation, incubation is essential and is usually longer than in other edible mushrooms. This stage includes “browning”, which is a process induced by exposure to a photoperiod and although it is believed to bring certain advantages to shiitake cultivation, it has not been widely studied. In this work, we evaluated how the incubation time, the use of different strains and the induction of browning affect the proximate composition, biological efficiency and other yield parameters of L. edodes. In order to do that, three experiments were carried out with three different strains, three different incubation times and the effect of induction or non-induction of browning. As results we found that the proximate composition did not vary with respect to the different incubation times or from the induction of browning, although differences were found according to the strain. On the other hand, the biological efficiency was affected by the incubation time and the strain used, but not by the induction of browning.

    Annamalai, Manikandan; Muthiah, Ponni Bala

    Resumo em Inglês:

ABSTRACT: Identification and classification of intracardiac masses in echocardiogram is one of the significant processes in the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease. A robust back propagation neural network (RBPNN) technique is used to conquer every single conventional-issue utilizing the echocardiogram image analysis for this work, which consists of four phases such as noise removal, automatic segmentation, feature extraction, and intracardiac masses classification. Initially, the noise is diminished from the echocardiogram images utilizing the adaptive vector median filter (AVMF). Then, linear iterative vessel segmentation (LIVS) is applied for automatic segmentation of the masses followed by the extraction of texture features using the multiscale local binary pattern (MS-LBP) approach. Finally, RBPNN is employed to classify the heart mass from the images of echocardiogram with the layered kernel for the system combination. Extensive simulation results obtained using proposed AVMF-MS-LBP based RBPNN approach disclosed the superiority over existing intracardiac mass detection and classification approaches in terms of accuracy of 98.85%.
