Resumo: Este trabalho apresenta um estudo avaliador acerca de um curso de Aparelho Digestivo em nível pré-clínico e de caráter interdisciplinar, cujas características são descritas. Utilizou-se um questionário, compreendendo múltiplos indicadores das percepções dos alunos, que foi aplicado a turmas sucessivas do curso, numa série temporal. Os propósitos da avaliação eram monitorar o funcionamento do curso e verificar os efeitos de mudanças seletivas no estilo de ensino. Os resultados obtidos sugerem maior impacto da integração interdisciplinar, melhor adaptação dos alunos ao processo de ensino-aprendizagem e aumento no valor e no significado pessoal do aprendizado adquirido. Os efeitos podem ser atribuídos, em boa parte, ao impacto da combinação de módulos de aprendizagem, estudo baseado em problemas clínicos e trabalho em grupo pequeno. Os dados apresentados contribuem para a apreciação da potencialidade dos métodos empregados e da possibilidade de inovação seletiva no ensino pré-clínico.

Summary: This work presents an evaluative study of a pre-clinical course on the digesitve systems that features an interdisciplinary approach. The purposes of the evaluation where monitoring of the course and the assessment of planned changes in educational style. Using a time series design data were obtained by mean of a broad questionnaire on succsessive groups of students. The results suggest a greater impact of the interdisciplinary integration, better adaptation of the students and an increased value and meaning-fulness of their learning. These effects can be ascribed mostly to the association of problem-based learning modules with small group work. This study contributes information on the potential value of these techniques in selective innovation of pre­ clinical teaching.

Resumo: Acredita-se que as atividades de pesquisa básica no Brasil são predominantes, quando compradas com as de natureza aplicada. Oportunidade para testar a validade dessa afirmação foi propiciada pela análise da distribuição de recursos do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) no ano de 1980. Do montante aplicado em ciências da saúde - que representou 1/4 do total para todas as áreas - estimou-se que 81% foram dirigidos para financiar projetos em áreas básicas e 19% em investigações aplicadas. Esses resultados, embora se limitem a uma das agências de fomento à ciência e tecnologia, tendem a confirmar a predominância da pesquisa básica no País.

Summary: It is thought that Brazilian basic research activities are predominant in relation to those of an applied nature. An opportunity to test the validity of mis affirmation was made available by the analysis of the distribution of National Research Council resources in the year 1980. Of the amount applied in health sciences, which represents 1/4 of the total for all areas, it was estimated that 81% was allocated to finance projects in basics areas and 19% to applied investigations. These results although limited to only one of the research funding agencies tend to confirm the prepoderance of basic compared to applied research.

Resumo: Para melhor avaliação dos objetivos do Curso Médico da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, é apresentado o perfil do Médico Geral Comunitário e são analisados aspectos referentes a sua formação, bem como ao seu aproveitamento no mercado de trabalho. São também questionados aspectos concernentes às aspirações profissionais dos concluintes do Curso Médico dessa Universidade e às frustrações impostas pelo Curso e pelo mercado de trabalho. Como método de estudo foi utilizado um questionário, aplicado a estes concluintes, com os tópicos: conceituação, necessidade de formação, dificuldades quanto à formação, sociedade e mercado de trabalho, e informações pessoais. A maioria dos estudantes afirmou que desconhecia previamente o significado do termo Médico Geral Comunitário. Esclarecidos a respeito, a quase totalidade da amostra reconheceu a importância de tal profissional para nossa realidade sócio-econômica, mas poucos se dispunham a seguir esta linha. Muitos apontaram a estrutura e funcionamento do Curso Médico como um dos principais fatores contrários à formação do Médico Geral Comunitário. A atualidade do tema e o enfoque da questão pelo lado estudantil alertam para a necessidade de uma reavaliação crítica dos objetivos do Curso Médico em questão.

Summary: The professional characteristics of the General Practioner are discussed in order to better evaluate the objectives of the Federal University of Pernambuco Medical Course. Some aspects of the medical education and the availability of jobs for this kind of doctor in the present structure of Brazilian National Health Service are also analysed. Aspirations for the professional life of the last-year medical students are questioned as well as their frustations motivated by the present medical course organization and the scant probabilities of getting jobs in the future. Eighty percent of the last-year medical students answered to a questionaire giving informations about: characteristics of the General Practioner, requirements for its education, availability of jobs and personal aspirations. The majority of the students stated that they did not know the meaning of the expression “community general physician” officially used to designate the general practioner in Brazil. Being informed about the professional profile of this type of doctor, almost all of the students recognized the great need of the community general doctor in our medical-social-economical reality. However very few of the students intended to follow this specialization. The present curriculum of the medical course and the qualification of the teaching staff, trained for other specialities, were pointed as one of the main handicap for training of the community general doctor. The relevance of this subject and the approach given to it by the students, make this study of great interest for students, educators and government authorities, and warn for an urgent need of reevaluation of the objectives of the medical course, and of the present national health politics.
