The commoditization of Moroccan Sufism: aesthetic forms in tariqa Hamdouchiya

Abstract: The article aims to understand the effects of the policy of promoting Sufism - the mystical path of Islam - on the Hamdouchiya Sufi Brotherhood. The aesthetic aspects associated with the immaterial legacies, as the Hamadsha music, denotes a status through the process of the commoditization of tradition the country has gone through in recent years by government policy. This research is part of the review of ethnographic data developed in Safi, Essaouira, and Fez. I highlight the new moment experienced by the disciples of Hamdouchiya converges to a process of commoditization. The issue of publicizing the forms referring to Hamdouchiya's intangible heritage allows an analysis focusing beyond the production of a musical identity.
