Against diabolic communism: evangelical support to Brazilian military regime and its parallel with the Christian right endorsement to Bolsonaro government

Abstract: Since 2015, a coalition between Christian right and security bench has become evident in the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies. Some authors considered Jair Bolsonaro election in 2018 a revival of the military regime (1964-1985). Evangelicals were in his support block. Is this approach unprecedented? More precisely: is the position of Reformed and Pentecostal leaders about the Brazilian military dictatorship (1964-1985) related to the political postures of the Christian right today? Intending to get in this issue, the article reviews the literature on the subject and concludes drawing parallels between the process started with the coup against Goulart and the second decade of the 21st century, identifying anti-communist rhetoric as the trace of continuity betwixt the different historical moments.
