Religious denialism: Bolsonaro and evangelical leaders during the Covid-19 pandemic

Abstract: This article aims to investigate the connections between Brazilian Pentecostal leaders and the Bolsonaro government regarding the management of the Covid-19 pandemic. We start with the assumption that some important religious leaders - formed of individuals who embody an ideal type of pastor, businessman, and politician - collaborate with the government in managing the pandemic through pandemic denial. We argue that denialism is a language of power that is outside the scope of democracy. It publicly expresses itself in different techniques of scientific denialism - many times with religious justifications - employed during various events during the pandemic, with the aim of consolidating a common political project.
