Indicators for Information Literacy in Brazil: virtues, trends and possibilities

ABSTRACT

Purpose:

in this work, we focus on the virtues, trends, and possibilities available in the Brazilian literature on the formulation of indicators in the area of Information Science applicable to information literacy. We are interested in recognizing, through theories and concepts about social and social vulnerability indicators, which can serve to assess information literacy.

Material and methods:

research with a qualitative, bibliographic and documentary approach. The structuring and analysis of bibliographic and documentary data, it uses descriptive writing, through categorization.

Results and conclusions:

the first results provide a mapping of the virtues and trends in Brazilian literature. These indicators in the area of Information Science applicable to information competence. They point out that indicators of poverty, food insecurity and human development (and social vulnerability) and environmental indicators can serve to assess information competence. It is also already apparent that it is through access (to information and services, for example) that a valuable connection can be made to the use of indicators in the assessment of information literacy.
