THE WORK OF ANAJÁ CAETANO: A BLACK BRAZILIAN WRITER IN FICTION LITERATURE

ABSTRACT

This article analyzes the novel Negra Efigênia, paixão do senhor branco of Anajá Caetano. The book deals with the relations between black slaves and white masters in São Sebastião do Paraíso-State of Minas Gerais (MG). The narrative contextualizes the space where the story takes place. The plot of the work allows us to consider it as a novel of manners crossing city foundation stories, calling into question predominantly male literary genres of the time. The author's African origin defies events and legality when, a century after the abolition of slavery in Brazil, she goes through ethnic and racial relations.
