Occurrence of Semiothisa abydata (Guenée) (lepidoptera: geometridae) on soybeans in the State of São Paulo

SUMMARY
During an inspection visit of the third autor of this paper in soybean fields in the Maracaí county sub district of Laranjeiras, during the second fortnight of February 1980, he collected caterpillars of Geometridae. These caterpillars were feeding on the green part of the young leaves of cultivars Bragg, Davis and Paraná. The evaluation of the damage was not possible due to the fact that the plants were in an advanced stage of maturity. A couple of them were brought to the Department of Entomology of Instituto Agronômico and were raised individually on an artificial diet for Spodoptera frugiperda. The adults obtained were identified as Semiothisa abydata (Guenée) and were included in the collection of the Department with the number 6604. Possibly S. abydata corresponds to a species not identified in soybean fields in the State of Paraná.
