IN VITRO DEVELOPMENT OF PLEUROTUS SPP. UNDER THE EFFECT OF SUBSTRATES AND DEXTROSE

ABSTRACT

Various lingo-celullosic substrates are used to cultivate the edible fungus Pleurotus spp. (shimeji), and better yields are obtained in media with different formulations. The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vitro growth rate and mass mycelium production of two Pleurotus ostreatus (BF24 and DF33) strains and from one P. ostreatoroseus (POR01/03) strain using different substrates with or without dextrose. During the study daily observations of colony diameter and mycelium mass were analyzed. We observed that the strain POR01/03 had the fastest growth rate and the strain BF24 had the highest mycelium mass among the strains in study. We also observed that all strains had a better growth rate and mycelium mass in the elephantgrass media, principally when dextrose was added.
