A Importância do Relatório Figueiredo na luta pelos direitos dos povos indígenas

Abstract

The book herein reviewed, published in 2022, is organized by anthropologist and historian Jane Beltrão. It is composed by chapters in several areas, including Law, Anthropology, History and Archeology, allowing the reader an ample understanding of the topic. Reading this book, just like reading the Figueiredo Report, is not easy. Its pages bleed in retelling the several crimes and human rights violations suffered by indigenous peoples during the military dictatorship. However, despite of this difficulty in reading through scenes of a true ‘’horror movie’’, as said by Beltrão, this book is a landmark in the fight for indigenous rights. It helps to disseminate knowledge of what the Figueiredo Report consists of: a proof of grave violations of human rights, which is highly important in the exercise of memory. After all, it is only through remembering the wrongdoings of the past that we can make sure that these are not repeated.
