Keeping the commitment of ABRAMO´s - Orofacial Motricity Brazilian Association - to support publications in the specialties of Speech Therapy and related areas, number 18 (4) of the CEFAC magazine - Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences and Education Journal presents articles.
Out of the 25 works published, 16 are original ones, 5 are review articles, 3 are case reports and 1, brief communication. The characteristics of the articles published in this issue are the result of research conducted in the southeast, south and northeast of Brazil, and of a research paper held in Chile. The areas represented are language with 9 articles, voice with 6 articles, audiology with 5 articles, dysphagia with 2 articles, orofacial motricity with 2 articles, and educational speech therapy with 1 article.
In the language area articles, one finds, in this issue, themes involving additional and alternative communication and written language. Vargas, Mezzomo and Kessler bring the perception issue of minimum contrasts in LIBRAS. Zuanetti, Novaes Silva, Mishima-Nascimento and Fukuda present alterations in the written narratives of children presented with difficulties in reading / writing. Santos, Gonçalves, Lima and Crenitte investigated on child stress on learning disorders which are also the subject of the article by Rodrigues, Freire, Gonçalves and Crenitte that relate to the predictors of depression in schoolchildren. The review article by Gonçalves and Freire studied speech analysis and speech therapy. The literature review by Ferreira, Lucena, Machado-Nascimento, Alves, Souza, Carvalho, Camargos Jr. and Parlato-Oliveira brings the strategies of mother tongue perception in the first year of life. The brief communication of Guedes-Granzotti; Andrade; Silva; Bicalho; Fukuda and Domenis presents results of cross-cultural adaptation of the communication function classification system for individuals with cerebral palsy. Wolff-Barnabé, Diogenes, Cunha and Freire report the case involving mitochondrial disease and additional and alternative communication. In the second case report of the language area, Lustosa, Guarinello, Berberian, Gis Massi and Silva discuss the literacy practices of freshmen and graduates in higher education.
The voice area features three articles with topics on professional voice. The article of authors Vilanova, Marques, Ribeiro, Oliveira, Teles and Silvério describes the vocal aspects of theater actors and students. Siqueira, Bastilha, Lima and Cielo present the article on vocal hydration in voice professionals and future ones. The capability for work aimed at teachers with voice disorders is the subject of the article by Ferreira, Giannini, Alves, Brito and Andrade. The voice area also features three other articles with subjects in clinical voice. The reception of dysphonic children´s parents is presented by Stadler, Ribeiro and Bagarollo. Voice parameters and the relationship with waist circumference and nutritional status is the subject of the research by authors Pascotini, Haeffner and Cielo. Authors Correia, Vianna and Ghirardi addressed voice and quality of life.
The two original articles of the Audiology area present the comparison issues of neonatal hearing screening protocols of authors Rodrigues, Nardez, Espindola, Gomes and Silva and audiological and behavioral findings in children after bilateral myringoplasty of authors Borges, Sanfins, Hein, Paschoal and Colella-Santos. The area also features three review articles, as follows: Applicability of Mismatch Negativity in children and adolescents, by authors Bruckmann, Santos Filha, Biaggio and Garcia. Malocclusions and dysfunction of the Eustachian tube in children, by authors Spineli, Studart, Heimer and Katz. Light spectroscopy near infrared and auditory sensory processing of authors Fontes, Miranda and Resende.
One of the papers presented in the orofacial motor area brings the theme food preference of mouth breathers by authors Canuto, Moura and Anjos. The other article discusses the association between cephalic posture and speech intelligibility, by authors Zepeda, Barra, Espinoza and Chávez.
The dysphagia area features an original article on the cultural adaptation and translation of the Swallowing Disturbance Questionnaire into the Brazilian Portuguese by authors Ayres, Ghisi, Rieder, Manor and Olchik. The impact of speech therapy on the quality of life in the Machado-Joseph disease, by authors Silva, Finard and Olchik, is the theme of the second article, in the area of dysphagia.
The article which covers the performance of schoolchildren in reading comprehension, by authors Cunha and Capellini, represents the area of educational speech therapy of this issue.
