University students faced with the gender matter: propedeutic study for the educational intervention

The article presents the results of a qualitative research which has been carried out to detect - as a previous step towards the educational intervention - how the high abilities university students perceive the gender stereotypes in three different settings of their daily lifes: the family environment, the academic field in the University, and the social context in which the communal time passes. The study data have been obtained by means of discussion groups, a metodologic procedure of proved effectiveness in the social reserch of attitudes. The results show that the gender equality is gradually reinforced in the daily contexts, which the subjects of the research frequent; it is not a matter which provokes controversy. Nevertheless, these university students also admit that they alredy notice the existence of apparently impregnable shelter of negative discrimination towards the woman, both in the culturally less provided and the wealthier levels of the society. All in all, we conclude that in spite of the undeniable advances from last decades, there remains alredy the necessity of carrying out learning actions in favor of the real equality between women and men, not only for the university population, but also to all the citizens, no matter which the scene or the circumstances of their lifes should be.
