SUMMARY

A survey to determine the level of resistance to the leaf rust of five plum cultivars was carried out under field conditions at Monte Alegre do Sul - State of São Paulo.

The studied materials presented different degrees of resistance. It was observed that the plum IAC 1-65 - in preliminary process of selection, showed a high level of resistance. The plum selection - IAC 1-9 - presented light to moderate resistance, while 'Rosa-Paulista' (IAC 2-51) and 'Carmesim' (IAC 2-41) - the main plum variety cultivated in São Paulo are quite susceptible, and are severely attacked by leaf rust when not efficiently protected by fungicides.
