Propitious occasion, nefastous occasion: time, history and political action in Rousseau

I first examine two classical images of time that can somehow be identified in the works of Rousseau, and next analyze how they function in his formulation of a theory of history. Finally, I show how such conceptions of time and history affect the question of political action. The first, more well known, is the image of time that devours everything; the second, that I will examine more thoroughly, is the image of time as occasion.

Rousseau; occasion; time; political action
