THE DENOMINATIVE VARIATION IN LIBRAS IN MARANHÃO: AN ANALYSIS OF THE SIGNS-TERM OF ELETROTECHNICAL USED AT IFMA/MONTE CASTELO AND AT SENAI-MA

ABSTRACT

This article consists in a study about the terminological variation in the Brazilian Sign Language - Libras, in the context of the electrical engineering field in São Luís City -Maranhão State. More precisely, this research aimed to analyze the main factors of denominative variation of signs-term used in electrotechnical courses offered by the Instituto Federal do Maranhão - IFMA/Monte Castelo and by Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Industrial - SENAI/MA. Theoretically and methodologically, this work is supported by the studies developed by Cabré (1995)CABRÉ, M. T. (1995). La terminología hoy: concepciones, tendencias y aplicaciones. The analyzed data were taken from two glossaries from Maranhão on electrotechnics produced for the deaf community: the glossary produced by SENAI-MA group (2011) and the author’s glossary (2019). The results obtained confirm the principles of the Communicative Theory of Terminology - CTT, since the expressive number of denominative variants cataloged in Libras, in the field of electrotechnics, it corroborates the assertion that there is variation in the specialized discourse and that this variation is caused by different factors: different interaction contexts, different social profiles, among others. For these reasons, it was aimed, in this work, highlighting the need to expand terminological studies related to Libras, contributing to the reflection on the importance of standardization as opposed to standardization in the area of Terminology and promote works that contribute to the inclusive education for the deaf people also in technical areas, such as the electrotechnics ones.
