ABSTRACT

Objective:

to elaborate and validate face and content of a multi-professional educational booklet for the education of caregivers of patients in use of Home Enteral Nutrition Therapy.

Method:

a methodological study, conducted in two stages: (1) elaboration of the educational booklet, divided in four phases; and (2) validation of the educational material by 12 experts. A minimum agreement rate of 80% was considered to ensure validation of the material.

Results:

the material is structured in 16 items that were considered pertinent by the experts. Content assessment by the experts presented a global Content Validity Index of 0.87. The agreement level of the categories assessed varied from 83% to 90%. The suggestions in relation to content, clarity, pertinence and relevance were addressed and modified for the final version of the material.

Conclusion:

the educational booklet is considered valid regarding content. It is suggested that it may contribute to the understanding in health education in caregivers and family members of patients in use of enteral nutrition therapy.
