Public religions and demands for recognition: reflections from research data with young participants of mass religious movements in the city of Rio de Janeiro

Abstract:

In this paper we try to catalog the profile and the public positioning of the young participants of religious mass events that took place in the city of Rio de Janeiro, between the years of 2013-2016. More specifically, it is a matter of making public and deepen the analyzes of a set of additional data obtained by the project “The New Configurations of Religion in the XXI Century”. For the goals that we pursue in this article, we will focus our attention on the set of data that allows us to trace the demographic profile of the participants, as well as those that reveal their opinion about controversial topics. In this sense, we intend to understand the contrast between the public opinion of religious groups linked to Pentecostal churches and groups linked to other religious denominations.
