Abstract: This article focuses on the symbolic analysis of the rezas and orações fortes (prayers) performed in liminal situations of the folia de reis. This knowledge is related to the existence of the Book of Saint Cyprian, a compendium of prayers and magical practices marked by restrictions and prohibitions related to the ideas of witchcraft, sorcery, and magic. To carry out this work, I use the ethnography realized by me between the years 2010-2017 with the master Fumaça of the Bandeira Nova Flor do Oriente, based in the metropolitan area of the state of Rio de Janeiro.
