Abstract:
From an intersectional approach and the analysis of microdata from the “Censo da Educação Superior” - Census of Higher Education - of 2018, this study aimed to verify higher education professors' racial and gender profiles from public and private institutions. Therefore, we sought, through statistical tests and multivariate analysis models, to verify whether there is a racial or a gender prevalence, as well as other aspects in professional higher education. The existence of racial and gender disparities in higher education was detected, with the prevalence of white and male professors. In addition, significant associations were observed at the intersection of gender and race in this space. Age, professional activity, and being it a public or a private institution conditioned the chances of non-white men and women, in general, of working in higher education. These elements confirm the thesis of racial and gender primacy widely discussed in the specialized literature.
