EDITORIAL

We are now opening the seventh volume of the IBRACON Structures and Materials Journal. In this issue (Volume 7 Number 1 – February 2014), seven original articles on concrete materials and structures are published. In the first article numerical simulation and design by the strut and tie method are presented for reinforced concrete six-pile caps. The next article approaches the rheological behavior of plastic shrinkage and cracking of self-compacting concrete mortars. An algorithm for automatic design of concrete shell reinforcement is described, with results showing its robustness and capability of application on large-scale structures. In another article, the topic is the evaluation of deflections in reinforced concrete structures using continuous damage mechanics. The fifth article, also an application of the continuous damage theory, presents a simplified modeling of the cracking and collapse process on frames and arches of reinforced concrete. The sixth article draws on the computational simulation of pull-out tests and APULOT using the program ATENA. The last article deals with slim floor beams in fire, with emphasis on the concrete constitutive models.

As our Journal is in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), with the inclusion of the SciELO Citation Index in the Web of Science platform, an important step for the access to the international community has been achieved. We acknowledge the dedication of our authors and reviewers, responsible for these nice results we are experiencing.
