ABSTRACT
The aim of this article is to analyze the political action of the indigenous people from aldeamento de Cimbres, province of Pernambuco, in the conflicts related to the process of the independence of Brazil in the decade of 1820. The article looks for understanding the indigenous people’s motivations for their stances regarding conflicts initiated by the elites. The multiple contextualization was used as a method to analyze the networks of interdependence created by indigenous people and non-indigenous, as well as the impact of the political action of the former in the nation-state formation process.
