Gender, curriculum and legal education: empirical views

Abstract:

This paper discusses the existence or non-existence of courses on gender in the curricula of law undergraduate programs at seven federal universities located in the three states of Southern Brazil. Given the current publication of curricular guidelines for Brazilian law programs, we carried out a documentary analysis of the pedagogical projects, curricula, course syllabuses, and teaching plans provided by the law undergraduate programs of the educational institutions investigated. We seek to understand how academic curricula are formed by conducting a literature review and using a document-based analysis methodology underpinned by a post-structuralist and interdisciplinary approach. From the empirical results obtained, we question the disputes that elect some contents as central and others as hierarchically inferior knowledge when looking at the training of law graduates.
