In 2011, Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da USP (REEUSP) will complete 45 years of history. As one of the oldest Brazilian nursing journals, REEUSP has always kept its periodicity while incorporating new communication and information technologies and facing structural and organizational challenges to maintain its mission of disseminating superior scientific publications in nursing, both nationally and internationally.

With the effort and dedication of its Editorial Board and ad hoc collaborators, technical and administrative staff, grant students and interns, REEUSP has been able to maintain its presence in all major databases. Furthermore, REEUSP has used new methods of dissemination, increasing its operational autonomy and publishing its articles in two languages, in print and online, thus meeting the goals that, on a daily basis, converge to reiterate its contribution for the visibility and continuing development of nursing in Brazil.

In this latest edition, the 40 articles reflect the work of numerous researchers, professors, undergraduates and graduates, and nurses from about every region in Brazil, in their everlasting contribution to build scientific bases in the various fields of knowledge. There is no privilege of this area over that or of one theme over another. Each and every article, with its own thematic or methodological specificities, is the outcome of questions that emerged from a professional inquietude of those seeking light for their practice of caring, teaching and innovating, consistently searching for evidence to consolidate this science of one too many interfaces and with one single motive: that of providing better conditions and quality of life to human beings by promoting or recovering their health.

Hence, with the purpose to increase the chances of dissemination and meet the growing demand of the Brazilian and international community, REEUSP, as of the upcoming year, will publish six bimestrial editions.

Therefore, we hope to increase the number of editions and thus deliver a total of articles that better meets the needs of our audience, maintaining the quality of our journal and following the changes in society, so that REEUSP will not only be ranked in important bibliographic bases, but also, and most importantly, keep its commitment to nursing practice, research, and education and to quality health.
