Acute myeloid leukemia with t(8;21): frequency among Brazilians

Acute myeloid leukemia with differentiation and t(8;21) or AML FAB M2 with t(8;21) has been described in from 6% to 12% of the cases in large series. There are very few descriptions with a small number of cases in Brazil. The objective of the present paper is to evaluate the frequency of t(8;21) among 190 cases of AML, at diagnosis. A total of 13 (6,8%) cases with t(8;21) (q22;q22) have been described, with a median age of 30 years (varying from 3 to 64), with six (46,2%) patients younger than 21 years old, and a male to female rate of 0.8:1 (six men to seven women).
