Stories and narratives of teachers from a rural school in the context of the Brazilian Military Dictatorship (1964-1985)

Abstract

This paper, which has education in the countryside as its main theme, aims at analyzing the narratives of teachers that worked at Frei Anselmo School, located in the community of Linha Floresta, in the interior of Selbach, a town in the North of Rio Grande do Sul during the Brazilian Military Dictatorship (1964-1985). In this text, debates regarding the use of narratives as an investigative conception for studying the Education History are evidenced, having as references oral sources. The analyses indicate a respectful relationship among teachers and school community in such period. However, the dictatorial mechanisms were present in rural schools in such a way that students were not free to express themselves and teachers had no autonomy to make approaches of social, political, economic and educational scope in the classroom.
