Beyond the domain range: corporate policies of territorial control in the extension of the Malha Regional Sudeste

Abstract

This article addresses commodity export capitalism in Latin America in the 21st century, having as its core the power relations between companies and public agents in the management of Brazilian rail infrastructure, addressing the case of the Malha Regional Sudeste (MRS), under the management of the concessionaire MRS Logística S/A. It is based on the Marxist literature on the capitalist production of space and infrastructure. It examines official publications from the competent government agencies and the company and brings a perspective rooted in an environment directly impacted by business activities. It exposes the circumstances under which MRS finds itself and discusses the company’s devices and practices to legitimize its power over the territories where it operates, using political, legal, economic and sociocultural technologies typical of neoliberal governmentality.
