Resumo: O autor relata um estudo das percepções de estudantes e mestrandos da área médica sobre funções e condutas especificas de ensino. Empregou-se a técnica do questionário, incluindo itens seletivos compilados da literatura especializada. Os resultados indicam que os participantes atribuem ampla importância a uma grande variedade de funções e condutas de ensino, mas demonstram preferência significativa por determinadas características, em termos da efetividade para a aprendizagem. Esse conjunto prioritário de condutas docentes representa cinco dimensões do ensino efetivo e pode constituir um indicador de proficiência docente. Outras implicações dos resultados são comentadas, em função de usos por estudantes e docentes.

Summary: The author reports a study of medical undergraduate and graduate students perceptions of teaching functions and specific. behaviors. Questionaries containing selected items compiled from special references were used. The results indicate that most respondents give large importance to many types of teaching functions and behaviors. However, there is a meaningful preference for some specific teaching characteristics that are found to be most helpful in facilitating student learning. Such priority set of teaching behaviors reflects five known dimensions of effective teaching and it could be considered as an indicator of teaching effectiveness. Other implications of the results for teacher and student uses are mentioned.

Resumo: Estabeleceu-se a comparação de um programa de ensino no qual se realizaram várias avaliações do rendimento escolar com outro em que se aplicou apenas prova final. Os dados estatísticos obtidos mostraram diferença significativa em favor do primeiro. Discutem-se os possíveis fatores responsáveis pelo bom êxito desse programa e a reação dos alunos à sua execução.

Summary: The traditional teaching system, with a sole term evaluation test, is checked against a method consisting of frequent testing, during a Neuroanatomy course. The statistic comparison of the mean grades for bath methods showed a significant difference in favor of the continued evaluation system. The possible factors that might have made successful the use of this method and the feed-back provided by the students are discussed. Additionally, the authors suggest some procedures for controlling the validity of the method appraised herein.

Resumo: Sintetizando os aspectos mais importantes do Programa de Integração Docente­ Assistencial desenvolvido em universidades brasileiras, o autor analisa a experiência obtida ao término de seu primeiro ano de execução e discute os principais obstáculos que a ela se opuseram. Propõe a mudança da atual estratégia do Programa, sugerindo a criação de cursos integrados de ciências da saúde, implantados como experimentos educacionais, em universidades recentes.

Summary: A program based on the integration between teaching and health services that is being carried out in seven brazilian universities, is analyzed in the current paper. The main obstacles to the development of the program are identified and discussed. Evaluation after the first year of the operational phase of the program indicates that its strategy should be changed. Accordingly, it is suggested that new integrated course should be implemented in new universities. These new courses should be looked upon as educational experiments.

Resumo A atuação do professor no processo ensino-aprendizagem depende, sobretudo, de sua visão sobre a natureza do homem, a sociedade e a educação. O desenvolvimento de tal processo requer a consideração das teorias de aprendizagem e de suas implicações no ensino. Segundo as vertentes comportamental, cognitiva e humanista, são expostos os processos de ensino e de aprendizagem, bem como apresentadas sugestões com o objetivo de auxiliar o professor a despertar a motivação de seus alunos.

Summary: The teacher's role in the teaching-learning process depends, above all, on his view of human nature, Society and education. The development of such a process requires the consideration of learning theories and their implications in so far as teaching is concerned. According to behavioral, cognitive and humanistic approaches, processes of learning are described and suggestions are presented so as to help the teacher to arouse the students' motivation.
