Summary:
A program based on the integration between teaching and health services that is being carried out in seven brazilian universities, is analyzed in the current paper. The main obstacles to the development of the program are identified and discussed. Evaluation after the first year of the operational phase of the program indicates that its strategy should be changed. Accordingly, it is suggested that new integrated course should be implemented in new universities. These new courses should be looked upon as educational experiments.
