Abstact:
In an attempt to improve the medical education, the Medical School (Famed) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) establish a project entitled Out-patient Surgery, in which students participate in surgical activities in a primary health care center in the city of Porto Alegre, improving their skills in out-patient surgical procedures and enhancing their overall medical training. The authors feel that this project is achieving its goals by proving practical training to students and placing them in contact with the most prevalence local disease. Moreover, the project plays an important social role by proving the services to the local community. The paper describes the project and its results.
