Is medical education changing in Brazil?

Abstract:

The author discusses the effectiveness of changes in medical education in Brazil based on theories focusing on the curriculum. The first section presents a brief review of such theories, ranging from the first studies in the early twentieth century in the United States to the emergence of critical perspectives in Europe in the 1970s. Represented by such authors as Althusser, Apple, and Giroux, critical approaches to the curriculum itself, and social new teaching methodologies and integration of courses have been considered isolated indications of changes in medical education, without a full analysis of the underlying theoretical or political principles of such proposals.
