PRATICANDO E ENSINANDO MEDICINA NA COMUNIDADE: A ASSISTÊNCIA MÉDICA

Summary:

A methodological approach to the organization of a primary care clinic is described. Four programmes were planned to meet universal needs on human populations through medical care. In order to meet medical needs of 2.300 persons we are performing 3,4 contacts "per capita" in an year. These contacts, for operational purposes, are organized as distincts programmes: woman's clinic; well-baby clinic; hypertension programme; illness care, including care of acute diseases, other crhonic diseases beyond hypertension and care of terminal patients.

These date suggest that patients iniciated contacts are the striking feature of primary care. A health team made up of doctors, health visitors and nutricionist is responsible to run the above stated programmes. The operation of these programmes not only helped organize our clinic but also allowed us to settle two other imperative aims of medical care: to evaluate the output of different parts of our clinic; to estimate the coverage of some specific actions in the target population.
