Development and utilization of a Brazilian mobile application for videoanalysis: “Videoanalisando”

The objective of this work is to present the program “Videoanalisando”, a video analysis software that was developed in Brazil. It seeks to contextualize the subject and to make some broad considerations regarding videoanalysis in physics teaching, given the Brazilian scenario. We discuss certain fundamental aspects related to the development of the project, which relates to a doctorate thesis project (in the Brazilian context of the emerging “professional doctorates”). An initial validation procedure of the software is also described, based on the in-classroom use of the program, and including a comparison between “Videoanalisando” and the well-known software Tracker. We therefore demonstrate that the software “Videoanalisando” has the potential to support in-classroom experimental activities using mobile phones and tablets. The software is freely available for the Android platform and, because it is originally available in Portuguese, it has the potential to contribute to Physics Teaching in Brazil.
