RAUL RODRIGUES GOMES AND THE 1932 MANIFEST: ACTIONS IN THE PRESS FOR A NATIONAL EDUCATION PLAN (1931-1932)

ABSTRACT

This article analyzes the trajectory of the intellectual, educator and journalist Raul Rodrigues Gomes (Piraquara, 1889 – Curitiba, 1975BIBLIOTECA Pública do Paraná. Raul Rodrigues Gomes (1889-1975). Curitiba, 1975. Pasta Raul Gomes n. 2.), relating it to the movement that culminated in the Manifesto pela Educação Nova (1932), which he signed. By drawing on articles published in the press, the notion of trajectory is mobilized with reference to Bourdieu, and the concept of “intellectual” is problematized by dialoguing with Gramsci, Vieira, Sirinelli, and Gomes. The educator participated in the cultural and educational scene in Paraná, helping to create cultural institutions and debating with the public through the press. Between 1931 and 1932, in articles published in the newspaper O Dia, he defended the primacy of education in national reconstruction plans and the idea of a national education plan for the country based on some assumptions, such as the unity of teaching in its different levels, education as a right for all, secularism, obligatoriness, and co-education.
