The D imensions of Decoloniality, Plurality and Ecumenicity in Theological Thinking: the Critical-Liberating Potential of Religions in Latin America

ABSTRACT

The article aims to highlight the the importance of the dimensions of decoloniality, plurality and ecumenicity for the process of deepening Latin American theology, in its liberating perspective, considering the development of the critical-liberating potential of religions and spiritualities of the Latin American continent. Using the method of qualitative analysis of the bibliography related to such themes, the study starts from a presentation of the categories of coloniality, plurality and ecumenicity, and then makes a descriptive and summary approach to religious diversity in Latin America and its relationship with sociocultural issues on the continente, with an analysis of the Latin American religious issue in the current context of globalization. Then, from a hermeneutic perspective, it explores the possibilities of a Latin American theology that is decolonial, pluralistic and ecumenical. The research concludes that decoloniality, plurality and ecumenicity are fundamental for the affirmation of the sociocultural and religious identity of Latin American peoples, re-signifying the contents of their faiths and beliefs and making their contextual specificities explicit. This empowers religions on the continent for actions that build social justice, the promotion of human life and the defense of creation and opens new challenges for Latin American theology.
