Abstract

Living in student housing reveals challenges in the relationships between residents, as well as their interactions with the space they inhabit. The aim of this article was to present the main challenges of being a resident in this context, understanding the sociability and relationships with the place. This study is constituted, from a qualitative approach, in a participatory intervention research, with participant observation and semi-structured interviews. The research subjects indicated housing as a space that enhances the quality of life and enables bonds of friendship, allowing them to appropriate the place as a home. It is in the dimension of sociability that challenges commonly found, such as negotiating routines, privacy and organization of space and coexistence with cultural differences, which results in situations of conflict. It is important to know ways that contribute to collective actions, formation of support networks, and mediation in situations of vulnerability and conflict.
