The Normal Course of the Esef and the pioneering formation of Physical Education teachers in Rio Grande do Sul (1940-1956)

Abstract

The present study aims to understand how the formation of teachers occurred in the Normal Course of the School of Physical Education (SPE) in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS), during the period in which it remained in operation (1940-1956). The construction of the historical text was guided by the theoretical and methodological assumptions of Cultural History, mobilizing the concepts of practices, representations and appropriation and, understanding the evidence according to the understanding of the “indiciary paradigm”. Through the collating and analysis of the research documents, it was possible to enter into the symbolic spaces of the SPE, demarcating the Normal Course as a place of formation permeated by representations from different groups that sought, through their practices, to legitimize their discourses. In this scenario, women began to occupy different positions, imprinting their identity to an environment permeated by representations predominantly military and medical.
