Information literacy to transgender people: conjecturing dialogues in front of the system

ABSTRACT

The aim here is to present the social and scientific movement of information literacy beyond academic elitization and restricted to educational institutions: it is about the awakening of this “metaliteracy” as an effective tool in the civic construction of the socially vulnerable - subordinated, excluded, despised. This is a qualitative study, with bibliographic provenance, in which we seek to trace some assumptions of insurgent dialogues of this literacy as a form of support for transgender people (or just trans people), that is, those who permeate the male/male and female/ female and do not identify with the biological attributions of birth. Hence, it is understood that the lack of development of such literacy is a form of authoritarianism and social repression. Its empiricist bias can and should become a powerful ally in the development of citizenship for social minorities. Therefore, we point out that the discussion and understanding of the equality of gender identities are essential and emerging, as, given technological and informational advances, information literacy is potentially capable of supporting the development of the people who need it most. As a result, we reiterate that it is necessary to look beyond the technologies and the “bubbles” in which it develops, in fact seeking to broaden its knowledge and practices - and therefore, we consider that information literacy cannot be limited to the library and the librarian, as mentioned in the thread.
