TAKING A LEFT TURN: GILDO MARÇAL BRANDÃO AND THE MARXIST INTERPRETATION OF BRAZILIAN POLITICAL THOUGHT

Abstract

This article analyzes the intellectual trajectory of Gildo Marçal Brandão (1949-2010), with emphasis on the thematic project in which he sought to trace the lineages of the Brazilian political thought. For that, it understands that Gildo offers a Marxist interpretation of Brazilian political traditions different from the nationalist one offered by Wanderley Guilherme dos Santos and the liberal one by Bolívar Lamounier. The article also seeks to unravel the production context of Brandão’s research project, naming its sources of inspiration and possible limitations.
