The Challenge of Plurisemioticity for Textual Linguistics

Abstract

In this work, we focus on theoretical approach and analytical instrumentalization mobilized by Textual Linguistics to analyze the text that conjugates verbal and non-verbal elements (plurisemiotic text). We consider that research in the field can use either its own approach, designed for verbal text, or to other one, such as the Grammar of Visual Design, designed for non-verbal texts. Our goal is, therefore, to check the theoretical decision of researchers regarding the analysis of plurisemiotic texts and the scope of this decision. We carried out a meta-analysis of five micro-analyses extracted from Textual Linguistics papers on referencing in the plurisemiotic text. This analysis led us to think that the plurisemiotic text text has its own order, although it keeps formal and functional traits in common with an exclusively verbal text and an exclusively imagetic text. At laste we argue the development of a specific theoretical and methodological approach to plurisemiotic text.
