#ELEITAS: SYMBOLIC VIOLENCE AND RESISTANCE IN INTERACTIONS ON THE FACEBOOK PAGE QUEBRANDO O TABU ABOUT FEMALE PARTICIPATION IN POLITICS

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss how symbolic gender-based violence is expressed through comments on a post of the Eleitas campaign, publicized by the Quebrando o Tabu Facebook page, and to debate strategies of resistance used by women in this environment. For this purpose, the post was analyzed with basis on the Critical Discouse Analysis research and on the Computer-Mediated Discourse Analysis, proposed by Herring (2001; 2004). Among the results, it was possible to comprehend that symbolic violence in this context can be observed through sexist humor, stereotypes as well as through depreciation and that women who participated in the discussion used as a resistance strategy the exposition of injustices and of attempts to maintain the masculine hegemony in positions of power via discourse.
