Report of João Carvalho Mascarenhas, a portuguese soldier displaced through the world

We reach this edition of História, under the theme Cultural Shifts, bearing the testimony written by João Carvalho Mascarenhas, after having been about four years captive in Algiers. Captured just after the loss of the ship Nossa Senhora da Conceição, on 11th October 1621, in view of Ericeira, is led by the "Turks" and there he remains until his release in 1625 or 1626. During this time - misfortune on misfortune - was "stuck to the paddle" the flagship of a Turkish fleet in retaliation through Mediterranean: "so about that he could also be a witness of view". (COMBATE, 138).
