Inventaries of desire

This article proposes an approach to municipal censuses of Rosario city, considering statistics as a genre of writing and the formation process of the proto-promotion and urban marketing. We study the production and circulation of statistics of the province of Santa Fe and Rosario from 1887 to 1910. The first part focuses on the diffusion process of the first census of Santa Fe province in France, during the Universal Exhibition in 1889. Then rebuild the various attempts to create municipal statistical offices Rosario, mobilized by the trajectory of 1887 provincial census, the health crises and preparations for the 1895 national census. The center of the paper considers the municipal censuses of 1900, 1906 and 1910 trying to pass the problem of the collection-uptake to the invention-manufacturing data and the representativeness to performativity of the statistics as social production process of knowledge and the census as a cultural artifact.
