MEMORIES ABOUT MATERIAL CULTURE IN THE SCHOOLING PROCESSES OF A GAÚCHA PRIMARY SCHOOL (1974-1989)

Abstract

The objective was to identify materials that were part of the Giuseppe Garibaldi School (EGG) of Caxias do Sul/RS, and that are part of a set of norms that define knowledge to teach, behaviors and disciplines to inculcate, based on the assumptions in Julia (2001). The period includes the implementation of the EGG in 1974 until 1989, when the school building was expanded. The theoretical assumptions are supported in Cultural History by the possibilities of understanding and analyzing how certain social and cultural realities are constituted, appropriated and represented. The methodology was Oral History, through narratives of teachers and graduates, and Historical Document Analysis through institutional and ordinary documents. Evidence indicates that EGG had a variety of materials for teachers to use in their classes, and had an adequate physical structure so that schooling processes could take place in a satisfactory manner.
