DEMETHYLATED WOOD CREOSOTE BASED ADHESIVES: EFFECT OF NON PHENOLIC COMPOUNDS ON WOOD BONDING PERFORMANCE

ABSTRACT

This work aimed to evaluate wood creosote based adhesives by using crude creosote and free nonphenolics creosote. Crude creosote was extracted with n-hexane in order to remove non phenolic compounds (NP). Crude creosote and extracted creosote were demethylated and used to synthesize two types of adhesives, with NP and without NP. Paraná pine veneers were glued and assayed on shear strength in wet and dry condition. According to experimental results, non phenolic compounds had no negative effect on wood bonding performance.
