EFFECT OF RADIAL GROWING OF Pinus taeda (L.) ON THE PROPERTIES OF PLYWOOD

ABSTRACT

This research was developed with objective to evaluate the influence of radial growing on the properties of plywood manufactured from Pinus taeda L., of 27 years old. The veneers were obtained from 5 growing band on the direction from pith to bark, from where were manufactured two plywood for each band, to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties. It was detected continuous increasing in the wood density on the direction from pith to bark. The properties of the modulus of elasticity, modulus of rupture and glue line strength, showed a growing tendency toward the bark. The manufactured plywood from the obtained veneer near the pith showed the mean values statiscally lower if compared with plywood obtained near the bark, proving the influence of tree growing in this properties.
