Anaerobic filter associated with microfiltration membrane treating landfill leachate

The objective of this paper was to evaluate the performance of anaerobic filter associated with a microfiltration membrane, treating landfill leachate. The results obtained showed that it is possible to treat wastewater using this MBR configuration with a hydraulic retention time of 2.04 days. The average values of organic volumetric load were 5.07 ± 2.90 kg COD/m³.d at the inlet of both reactors. The efficiencies of chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal were 90.4% to the anaerobic filter associated with microfiltration and 21.5% to the anaerobic filter. The turbidity removal was 90.3% to the MBR configuration with average values at the outlet of 2.0 ± 2.0 NTU. Values of upflow velocity of 31.5 m/h were reported in the anaerobic filter associated with microfiltration membrane and 0.05 m/h in the anaerobic filter which promoted a Reynolds number of 2.9 and 1,799, respectively.
