EFFECTIVENESS OF LEARNING COMMUNITIES IN EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL INCLUSION. A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Learning Communities are a project implemented in many countries with the purpose of improving student performance and promoting inclusion through the involvement of families, interactive groups, dialogical literary gatherings, the organization of teachers and of the resources of the center, and the maintenance of high expectations for all the students. This work reviews 16 empirical articles published in the last two decades about the effectiveness of the Learning Communities. Specifically, the characteristics of the participants, the methodology, and the instruments of each study are analyzed. The conclusions point to an increase in the academic performance of the students and an improvement in social cohesion, as the main effects of the Learning Communities project.
