ABSTRACT
The text aims to discuss the crisis of the educational sciences in Brazil, in view of the dilemmas and impasses that currently challenge the research in this area. To this end, it presents a hermeneutic study of the understanding about the challenges of the educational sciences based on a questionnaire applied to Brazilian education scientists and philosophers. In summary, the educational sciences are understood as: 1) an extension of other sciences; 2) an epistemological dispersion of knowledge; and 3) knowledge which is detached from its theoretical foundations. Given these three general perceptions, the article discusses the possibility of rethinking the educational sciences in the light of Habermas’ reconstructive hermeneutics.
