SUMMARY

With the finality of increasing and acelerating the germination of "açaizeiro" seeds (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) several treatments were studied. The control treatment, fruits having 11 days of harvesting, was compared with: "cristobalino" method; fruits treated in hot water for 10 minutes; fruits treated with sulfuric acid for 5 and 10 minutes; pulp deprived fruit and pulp deprived fruit scarified.

After five months of seedling with the germination process already finished, it was concluded that: a) 58% of germination was obtained in the control process; b) imersion in hot water (80°C) for 10 minutes gave only 9% of germination; c) treatment with sulfuric acid (75%) for 5 minutes gave 10% of germination, and in the same treatment for 10 minutes all the seeds were lost; d) the "cristobalino" method produced the same results as the control; e) the best results were obtained with pulp deprived fruits, not scarified, with 83% of germination.
