SUMMARY

I. A. C. PATRICIA and I. A. C. PIRATININGA are two varieties of Brazilian grapes obtained by hybridization from tropical, American and European grapes in the Instituto Agronômico de Campinas, with the valuable support by FAPESP since 1970. They are fine grapes for consumption "in natura", with perfect adaptation to our environment, vigorous, fruitful and resistant to main cryptogamic diseases, with big bunches, not very dense, fully developed fruits and adherent to the stem, they do not split or decay because of tropical rain.

They are fleshy and they have the flavor of European grapes, and achieve a perfect maturation with high Brix and low acidity. They do not present the difficulties of the European grapes due to the mild winters and rainy and warm summers.

I. A. C. PIRATININGA has an intermediate maturation, neither early not late. It is a somatic mutation of I. A. C. 842-4 "EUGÊNIO", which has a better taste, fruits with thinner skin and a better color. I. A. C. PATRICIA is late, more vigorous and by its roughness, it does not need the same number of phytosanitary treatments and other indispensable cares that are necessary to produce European grapes which are very expensive to produce. Its cheaper cost and the production cost is the half of the European and the production is superior, in the same conditions. I. A. C. PATRICIA is becoming largely expanded in several regions of São Paulo State, other Brazilian States and also other countries because of its advantages and profit that it provides. Besides, both have the advantage por transportation for long distances, and may be kept in freeze chambers, for several weeks.
